The Earth was facing an unprecedented energy crisis. If there was any hope of a solution, it lay underground... Surprisingly, no one really knew what the underground was like. In the year 20XX humanity finally fell into total resource depletion, and the planet itself began to decline. With space development and undersea projects failing to deliver significant energy breakthroughs, humanity turned its attention to subterranean energy. In search of a new power source, I joined a geosurvey project. From the depths of a cave in a certain primeval forest, we succeeded in capturing the lifeform we had been seeking.
