I was sent on a field assignment to a remote rural backwater for a feature called “In Search of Hidden Hot Springs.” The onsen were nice, but there was no entertainment and almost no bars to hop between. Late at night, while wandering around for the piece, I found a shop standing alone in a shady back alley.
