Several years into our marriage, my wife and I were enjoying our married life freely. Lately she’d been having house parties with friends from the apartment building on a rotating-host basis, and this time our place was up. I didn’t mind that she liked to drink, but she could get overly cheerful and say things she shouldn’t, which worried me a little. The friends, however, doted on her. One weekday she messaged me that they were having a drinking party at an unusual time—starting in the afternoon. I thought, “Well, okay,” and agreed. During my work break I messaged her, but it stayed unread. I told myself not to drink too much and went back to work. Then I received another message from her. The wording was different and felt off. Growing uneasy, I hurried home. The apartment was dark; my wife was wrapped in a blanket and sleeping. I had a bad feeling; when I pulled back the blanket, she was completely naked.
