In the Warring States era, the Tokuyama family of Sunpu moved their hoarded treasure—gold bars—to a Koga hideout in the Yada domain, with Koga ninja assigned to guard it. As a guarantee, Tokuyama ordered Yada to send a hostage, so Yada Yukimoto’s mother “Yamakuni” was sent to Tokuyama. However, Yada plotted rebellion: he sent the Koga kunoichi “Hitome” disguised as “Yamakuni” to Tokuyama, scheming to overthrow Tokuyama and seize the treasure. “Hitome” headed for the inn where “Yamakuni” was hiding. But having learned of this, the rogue runaway ninja Kurihara Genzō’s gang seized the Koga group’s hidden inn and lay in wait for Hitome.
