On a summer night, a mahjong game is taking place on the second floor of a dimly lit Japanese house. The men gathered around the table grow more excited each time the matches heat up. Meanwhile, downstairs, Natsumi — a beautiful married woman — watches anxiously, concerned about what’s happening above. Her husband, a gambling addict who has dabbled in every kind of bet, keeps pouring all their money into the games and losing again and again… Despite this, Natsumi manages to keep the household going on the bare minimum. But when her husband repeatedly loses at mahjong and runs out of point sticks, as payment he offers Natsumi — who had been bringing snacks — to the other men.
