About this work

Our documentary reporting team followed a family-run sento. The father faithfully preserves a bath that still carries the scent of the Showa era, and the daughter, as a “yujo” (female bath attendant), routinely strips in front of customers and performs body-washing services. There was the sight of an old-style bathhouse. These actions are never for lewd purposes; rather, they are a series of measures the parent and child devised to clean the bathing customers' bodies: smearing oil with skin, orally suctioning a soiled glans, and washing the shaft with the vagina. Father and daughter: we report on their days of shared passion, customs, and challenges.
