She’s called “the Massage Machine Demon” by the people around her — because her passion for massagers is anything but ordinary. She first showed signs of becoming a massager specialist in third grade, when she put her father’s massager to her shoulder. Even as an elementary school child she always had stiff shoulders, and the device’s vibrations worked to knead her stone‑hard muscles. From then on, anything that vibrated became her plaything. “One expert analyzed, ‘The vibrations of a massager are like a cradle to her.’” Everyone has their own quirks and unshakable comforts — a habitual lick of the lips, scratching one’s head, needing to trap something in one’s hands to fall asleep, and so on. For her, the massager is that indispensable comfort and habit. From that point she set out on a quest to find massagers that would give her better vibrations and more calm. The first place she visited was a small local electronics shop. The scene she saw there remains vivid in her mind: countless massagers, chairs, exercise machines… she was so moved she mistook it for heaven. She stayed from early morning until dusk; the different vibrations would not let her go. She looked so happy using the devices that a shop clerk said, “If you want it, you can have that one — now go home.” She dislikes things that don’t make sense, but she couldn’t resist her true desire. Gleeful after receiving the massager from the clerk, she went home. No sooner had she arrived than her mother asked, “What’s that?” When she honestly answered, “A massager,” her mother turned beet red and confiscated it. She couldn’t understand why her mother would do that, and collapsed in tears at the doorway from the grief of having something precious taken away. But she didn’t give up — her obsession with massagers could not be shaken by that. Little did anyone know at the time that these experiences were steps toward her becoming the Massage Machine Demon.
