About this work

Under the motto “If you meet a girl this kind and cute when she smiles, you’ll feel like you can try harder at studying or work,” we gathered young women who are simple and somewhat unpolished but somehow refined and speak politely — they prefer older things to chasing the latest trends. We focus on warmth, handmade feeling and retro for the girls, the visuals and the music, so please support us! Started March 2020: “Emotional Girls.” The third installment features current second-year university student Mao Watanabe (19). For her first shoot we went to Shonan and filmed her first AV in an old Western-style house. Her trademark short haircut gives a cool, active modern-girl impression; she’s funny and a strong conversationalist — clearly very socially skilled. She wasn’t intimidated at all by staff easily more than a decade older and gave candid opinions. Calm, composed, with a certain gutsy steadiness. I couldn’t help but wonder how she would embody the world we adults assigned to “Mao Watanabe.” It made me think — unbecomingly so for my age. But she’s someone with solid ideas that make adults think that way. She even calls herself “a bit stubborn,” which likely means she really is. Her ambition to “become famous” with “紗倉まなちゃんが大好き◆” makes you want to cheer her on. It was obviously her first time on a stills shoot, but she pulled it off without embarrassment. Her special skill is Japanese classical dance and she says she “can do any sport,” giving the impression of far superior athletic ability compared with a typical woman — such girls tend to be strong (good) at sex as well. A sporty, active, cool girl going on a Shonan date and winding up in a tasteful hotel — I’ve never had that experience in private, but watching Mao Watanabe’s memorable AV debut made me wonder if that kind of life might have been possible if I’d tried a bit harder.
